Indian Premiere League, IPL, as its fondly called, has become an instrumental force in unearthing exciting cricketing talents in the world. It precisely does what every cricket board strives hard to achieve- nurture cricketing talents. The Extravaganza was all set to begin on 3 april 2012, with a grand opening ceremony in the home fortress of the defending champions Chennai Super Kings. Adding to the fun and frolic was the electrifying star cast for the inaugurals- The Big B, Piggy chops, Bebo, Prabhu Deva, Sallu Bhai and ofcourse ever enchanting Katy Perry! The Cup was wide open again for a fierce competition among the 9 participating teams. The stage was set at the chepauk on 4 april 2012 where the CLT20 champions thrashed the IPL defending champions. This time IPL was destined to be more exciting and enthralling than the previous editions. Teams fought neck and neck battles.
During the initial stages of the tournament it was quite unpredictable as to which are the four teams to make it for the play off. Delhi Daredevils set their eyes on the trophy and with consistent performance became the first team to enter playoffs. Kolkata Knight Riders unlike their previous outings wanted to eliminate the ill happenings of the past. With astute captain leading from front and with the aid of the mystery man of the tournament they cruised into the play offs. With nearly eight matches being completed the vacancy for the remaining two spots was wide open, with Pune Warriors and Deccan Chargers not disturbing other teams. Mumbai Indians won close encounters and kept their position intact. Chris Gayle's murderous knock left several teams gasping as they were fiercely in competition for the play offs. Chennai Super Kings on the other hand were looking out of the sorts seeming to have lost the champion material in them. With individual brilliance of players they won 4 of their last 6 league games to be contented for the play offs. Rajasthan Royals led by an easily adaptable Rahul Dravid lost their way in the middle. Kings XI who played some serious cricket were another to lose the spot for play offs against table toppers. RCB played some ordinary cricket to make way for the defending champions in the play offs to compete for the hat trick of titles.
Now the teams qualifying for the semi finals had been identified, four metropolitan cities of India. Kokalta with a strong performance entered the finals for the first time. Eliminator between the south and west offered some intriguing arguments, with Mumbai having defeated Chennai in league games it was not easy task for the Super Kings. Captain Cool had other plans and thrashed Mumbai out of the tournament. Qualifier 2 had to be played to decide who was to compete with Kolkata for the title. Chennai made most of it, thanks to Murali Vijay, and Table topper made some poor team selection to get themselves eliminated. All the more the final two teams had been decided Kolkata and Chennai, former with the quest for maiden title and latter, for hat trick of titles. Chennai looked well in way for retaining their title for the third time, but Manvinder Bisla had other plans. The onslaught left Chennai tottering. The finals battled fiercely ended in the favour of Kolkata Knight Riders the new champions of IPL, dethroning the two time holders. Well the tournament had success despite the match fixing charges, Pomersbach brawl incident.
Well since the tournament is over, all we need to do is wait for another eleven months to see whether IPL takes whole new and bigger avatar next year, but for now its KORBO- LORBO- JEETBO!!
